As an artificial fireplace intended to give only the simulacrum of a fire, it is remarkably effective at providing good cheer. Visitors are drawn to it. The heat output is a nice touch, but this is NOT intended as a room heater. I have this installed in a small room and and can hardly tell the difference whether the heater is on or not. However, it warms the room psychologically, if not physically. It installs in minutes with ordinary tools. No instructions were included, but none were necessary other than for trying to determine where to place the enclosed "embers," which was not too difficult. I'd buy this all over again.
